Understanding energetics and the impact on your pregnancy, birth, and you baby

Pregnancy isn’t just a physical journey, it’s an energetic one.

Every thought, emotion, and relationship around you creates a space that your baby grows within. Your energy is your baby’s first language. Before they hear your voice or feel your touch, they are attuned to your vibration - this includes your sense of safety, love, and connection.

In my years working with pregnant women, I’ve seen time and again that how you feel emotionally and energetically directly impacts how your body and baby experience pregnancy and birth. When you’re supported, grounded, and connected, your nervous system communicates safety to your baby’s developing body and mind. When you’re stressed, anxious, or unsupported, that same system sends signals of contraction and tension, all of this shaping not just your labor, but your baby’s sense of safety in the world once they are here.

How stress and fear affect pregnancy

When the body senses danger, it diverts energy away from ‘non-essential’ systems. These could be things like digestion, reproduction, and labor, and instead goes into survival mode. That means the hormones and blood flow that support a healthy pregnancy and smooth birth are literally redirected when you’re under chronic stress.

Your body tightens, your breath shortens and your baby feels that restriction, too.

Over time, this can affect fetal development, emotional imprinting, and the birth process itself. Studies have shown that maternal stress hormones like cortisol can cross the placenta, influencing your baby’s nervous system and early stress responses.

This doesn’t mean you have to be calm 24/7 (that feels a little unrealistic!) but it does mean you have the power to shift your energy consciously, to create a womb environment that feels safe, supported, and loving.

Energetics in birth

When your energy is calm and grounded, your body is far more likely to open, release, and allow labor to unfold naturally.

But when fear or disconnection take over, your body constricts, and that can delay labor onset or draw it out. The longer labor takes, the greater the chance of interventions (which come with their own set of challenges), exhaustion, or feeling disconnected from the experience.

Energetics is the missing link in birth preparation.

You can have the best birth plan, the right music, and all the breathing techniques,  but if your energy is in survival mode, your body will follow.

Creating energetic safety

You can begin shifting your energetic state by focusing on three key areas:

  1. Emotional support: Surround yourself with people who help your nervous system feel safe, not those who drain or dismiss you.

  2. Energetic awareness: Notice what contracts or expands your energy. Fear, resentment, and unspoken needs might close you off. Compassion, breath, and honesty might open you up.

  3. Embodied practices: Work with your body to release stored emotion - some ways to do this are through breathwork, gentle movement, and practices that connect you to your baby are essential.

I know this might not be what you have been used to hearing, but your pregnancy doesn’t need to feel heavy or chaotic. You deserve to feel connected, held, and energetically aligned - always. And your baby deserves to grow in that vibration of safety.

If you’re ready to create that kind of pregnancy, explore Exhale my program designed to help you shift from survival to surrender, so your baby can grow within your peace, not your pressure.
